Music concert's a hit
The concert featured the schools' Junior School Orchestra, the Monklands Area Youth Music Initiative Choir, the Senior String Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra.
Over 250 pupils performed to a very enthusiastic audience that included Councillor Jim Logue, Convener of Learning and Leisure Services.
He said: "We are very proud of our talented young musicians in North Lanarkshire. Everyone attending had a terrific evening and the quality of performances was incredible."
Since its introduction in 2004, the Scottish Government's Youth Music Initiative has provided free music lessons to over 16,000 pupils in all primary, and most secondary schools across the area.
Currently over 400 pupils are learning to play a string instrument, with free lessons and instruments available through our Youth Music Initiative Programme.
Each child is also offered the opportunity to rehearse and perform with either the junior or senior string orchestras.
The symphony orchestra provides the more advanced string pupils a platform to perform and enjoy symphonic music along with woodwind, brass and percussion players who are drawn from the ranks of the authority wind bands.
