Exam results August 2009

Top class effort from North Lanarkshire pupils

Education 2

The long wait for exam results came to an end today (Wednesday August 5) for thousands of North Lanarkshire pupils.

And, after early analysis, it looks as though Higher passes are better than ever.

Although the full breakdown of results won't be known for another couple of weeks, overall Vocational, Standard and Higher exam results from S3 to S6 are showing improvement over 2008.

In S4, the percentage of pupils gaining five or more passes at all levels is broadly in line with the previous year.

Attainment by the end of S5 in 2009 showed an increase from the 2008 figure.

In NLC in 2009, the percentage of S5 pupils attaining 1 or more, 3 or more and 5 or more passes at Higher level increased from 2008.

The percentage attainment of one or more and three or more passes at Higher Level are the best in a 5 year period.

Christine Pollock, Executive Director of Education, said: "We are pleased with the number of pupils who are attaining passes in SQA examinations by the end of third year.

"The number of Credit level passes was 619, an increase of 43 from 2008 and a rise of 598 from session 2003/2004."

Although figures have yet to be confirmed, the authority is pleased with the number of passes being attained by school students who attended college courses last session.

In addition, many students are achieving awards in a wide range of courses outwith the SQA diet.

These awards are in addition to the standard grade and higher grade awards.
