Let us help you find your ancestors

Family History Centre opens

If you want to find out more about your roots and trace your family tree, our new Family History Centre can help.

It offers internet access to family records from the 1800s and the Scotland's People web site, one of the largest online sources of genealogical information with almost 80 million records. You can also use Roots Magic software to generate your family tree, scan documents and create your own family history portfolio.

The centre is located at 20/22 Motherwell Road in Bellshill within the Area Registration Office.

Councillor William Hogg, Convener of Corporate Services, said:
"Fuelled by popular television programmes and more information being made available online, researching your ancestry has never been more popular. Our new centre will tap into this interest. Our experienced registrars will be on hand to help people access the latest technology and online resources. It really is a great resource for the community."

At the new centre you can access statutory records of Scottish births, deaths and marriages from 1855; census records from 1841 to 1901; divorce records from 1984; and old parish records from 1538 to 1854.

If you would like your family tree researched for you, our registration staff can search the records and draw up a unique history book including your family photos and documents.

The centre is open Mondays to Fridays from 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4.00pm. To find out more or to make a booking, call 01698 346780.
