Everyone is invited to the opening of the new multi-million pound Broadwood Sport and Leisure facility on Saturday 9thJanuary 2010.

Blane Dodds, Chief Executive of North Lanarkshire, said:

"We're encouraging people along to see for themselves just what a superb facility this is.

"They'll be able to tour the new facility and see demonstrations of some of the latest fitness equipment available anywhere in the UK.

"Staff will also be on hand to give details and advice on our excellent value membership options."

This state of the art facility offers a superb gym with up to the minute Techno gym equipment, two fitness studios offering a huge range of BTS (Body Training Systems) fitness classes, martial arts studio, sports hall, kids soft play area and café with wi-fi access.

Chair of North Lanarkshire Leisure, Jim Logue said: "Combined with the current 8,000 seat stadium complex at Broadwood, this has created a major sport and leisure venue, at an easily accessible prime location, to serve the people of Cumbernauld and beyond.

"It's an impressive, spacious building which makes maximum use of natural light. We're hoping that it can be used by countries as a pre-training facility ahead of the Commonwealth games, Olympic games and 2011 Children's Games.

"We are investing heavily in our sporting facilities in North Lanarkshire. Along with the £32 million Ravenscraig Regional sports facility which will open in Autumn 2010, we have recently opened six full size state-of-the-art 3G sports pitches and upgraded all of our gyms to an extremely high standard."

Construction of the building was funded and managed by North Lanarkshire Council; it will be managed by North Lanarkshire Leisure Trust Ltd.

The facility will open at 9am on Saturday 9 January.
