Moving house checklist
Checklist of people you should contact if you have to move home
We should be your first point of contact. If you are in receipt of housing and/or council tax benefit, moving home may affect the amount of benefit you receive. If you are a council tax payer we need to know that you are moving. We may also be able to advise you which local authority you need to contact if you are planning on moving out of our area.
If you are on Jobseekers Allowance and you decide that moving to a cheaper area is the best option for you and your family, remember to let your Jobseekers Office know your new address. You can search for your local Jobcentre Plus by using the link on the left. The search tool will provide you with the nearest Jobcentre Plus office to your address, their full address and contact number.
Do this in good time as it could take up to five days to set up the instruction to redirect your post.
Health services (GP, Dentist etc)
Remember to deregister with your doctor, dentist and opticians if you are moving out of the area.
It is advisable to inform your child's school of your change of address and any other services.
Social Services/Support for carers
If you need a carer or support from social services contact us for advice.
