Land supply

Vacant and derelict land

We are required by the Scottish Government to maintain a register of Vacant and Derelict Land as part of the Scottish Vacant and Derelict Land Survey.

Find out about our 2022 survey

Our survey provides the evidence and support for policies that focus on the re-use, improvement and regeneration of land which has previously been developed.

We visit, assess and record changes to sites that have previously been developed but are now considered unused or damaged.

We add new sites which have fallen out of use since the previous year and remove others that have been developed or no longer meet the selection criteria.

The survey is used as a valuable source of information to inform national, strategic and local policy on vacant and derelict land. It helps direct funding from sources like the Vacant and Derelict Land Fund.

The criteria are strictly defined by the Scottish Government and further information can be found in their comprehensive guidance note.
