Round table sponsorship hits the bullseye!
Airdrie and Coatbridge Round Table give backing to British Transplant Games darts events
The British Transplant Games are taking place in North Lanarkshire in July 2017 and the darts will take place in the Motherwell Concert Hall and Theatre.
Coatbridge man Alan Hendry of the Round Table, explained: "To have a major event like this on our doorstep doesn't happen every day; we spend the year fundraising in order to help local good causes. And although this is a national event, having it happen within our local community made it stand out to us.
"We have supported local sports men and woman over the years, from youth football teams, shinty teams or amateur boxers, anything that helps people remain fit and healthy is close to all of our hearts. The opportunity to support such a fantastic event whilst helping promote the NHS Organ Donor Register was too good an opportunity to miss out on as one of our members has benefited from a transplant.
"All we had to decide was which event to sponsor, and we all agreed it should be darts.
"You see, when we are at events or on days out as a group we are often mistaken for a darts team as the Round Table Rondel that is on our polo shirts etc. looks like a dart board!
We've been asked if we're a darts team so often we thought we may as well do something to support the theory."
The group presented a cheque for £800 to Linda Johnston of North Lanarkshire Council. She said: "We are extremely grateful to the Round Table for their support and it's great to have an organisation which does so much for the community involved in the 2017 game
