Scottish council elections

The Scottish council elections take place on Thursday 4 May 2017.
To vote in these elections you must be registered to vote by Monday 17 April. You can register to vote online. You will need your National Insurance Number to complete the registration. Alternatively, contact your local Electoral Registration Office on 0800 030 4333.

16 and 17 year olds can vote in the Scottish council elections.
Voting by post or proxy
If voting in person isn't convenient, you can choose to vote by post or by proxy. Voting by proxy means you can ask someone you trust to vote for you.
To apply for a postal or proxy vote go to the Your Vote Matters web site.
If you wish to stand as a candidate in the council elections, contact our Election Office on 01698 302119 for a nomination pack.

The deadline for lodging nominations is 4.00pm on Wednesday 29 March 2017.
Single transferable vote
The Scottish council elections will use the single transferable vote (STV) system which means you can vote for as many or as few candidates as you like - marking 1, 2, 3... at the names of your choices.
Election count and results
The count for these elections will take place on Friday 5 May and the results will be published here.
