North Lanarkshire Council has elected its Provost and administration

At its first meeting since the local government elections the council agreed that Councillor Jean Jones would serve as Provost, with Councillor Tom Castles as her deputy. Councillor Jones becomes the first female Provost in North Lanarkshire's history

Councillor Jim Logue was elected as Leader of the council, with Councillor Paul Kelly as depute leader.

Councillor Jones, who, as Provost, will chair meetings of the council and serve as first citizen of North Lanarkshire, said: "I am honoured to be chosen as Provost, and very proud to be the first female Provost in North Lanarkshire. I will represent the people of North Lanarkshire to the very best of my ability and I look forward to the many events I will be involved with during this term of the council."

Councillor Logue said: "There is no doubt that leading the council will have its challenges but it is a great privilege to lead the development of policies that will make a real difference to all the people of North Lanarkshire. I look forward to working with my fellow councillors and the officers of the council‎ to deliver services we can be proud of."

Paul Jukes, the council's chief executive, added: "This is a big step forward for the council. Along with the staff of the council I aim to work with all councillors to deliver the council's priorities. I congratulate all those councillors elected to their positions today."
