Pupils' exam results success

Exam results arrived this morning (Tuesday 8 August) by e-mail, text and post ending the long wait for pupils, parents and teachers

This year's results published, by Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), reveal North Lanarkshire to have recorded a very strong performance, particularly in S5 and S6.

Results for Highers and Advanced Highers showed increases in all areas compared with previous years.

The success of pupils in S5 and S6 has been credited to the senior phase work led by the education service, which resulted in secondary schools working together and sharing resources to increase the range of options for pupils.

Councillor Frank McNally, Convener of Education, was delighted with such positive outcomes for the young people of North Lanarkshire saying: "These results show the difference that can be made when schools work in collaboration for the benefit of all.  This will definitely improve the life chances of our young people in helping them to secure positive leaver destinations.

"I would like to pay tribute to the staff for providing high quality learning and teaching and to the parents and carers who support their young people.

"I also would like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of our pupils in achieving these results.

"Any pupil who did not receive their desired results should not be despondent. I encourage them to contact their school where teachers are available to give advice and support and discuss all options to help them going forward."

Isabelle Boyd, Assistant Chief Executive, Education Youth and Communities, also praised the professionalism and commitment of staff and the hard work of the young people in achieving another very positive set of results.

"These latest results are thanks to our collaborative approach to delivering the curriculum for S5 and S6. I would like to thank all staff for their creativity in taking this sector leading approach for the benefit of young people in our area.

"SQA examination results for S5 and S6 pupils in North Lanarkshire continue to improve in some cases doubling the achievement of Highers and Advanced Higher over the past 10 years."
