Calderbank primary school is a small non-denominational, co-educational school teaching children from primary one to primary seven. It is situated on the main street of the village of Calderbank, near to the town of Airdrie.
The school was built in 1892, it is a traditional building with large rooms, a central hall and high ceilings. There are four classrooms, a central hall which is used for PE, assemblies and concerts. A library area has recently been developed and there is a TV and general purpose room. There is also a dining room, stockroom, offices, medical room and staff room.
There are currently three classes, class one: primaries one, two and three, class two: primaries four and five, primaries six and seven. All classes are composite due to the size of the school roll.
We hope that parents will find Calderbank primary school is friendly and welcoming. Parents are always encouraged to learn more about the work of the school and staff are willing to explain or discuss matters of interest or concern. Every attempt is made to ensure that pupils are made of the fact that they are part of the community. Pupils are encouraged to find out about their local area and to have respect for the environment in which they live. Links between the local schools and our associated primary are maintained. Liaison with Corpus Christi Primary School is encouraged. Staff and pupils from both schools attend each school's annual concert and links with nursery are in place. Pupils are made aware of the various organisations in the local area such as the Sunday school, brownies, boys' brigade etc. Senior citizens are invited to attend our concert and join us for tea and shortbread after the performance. Members of the community are encouraged to attend social and fund raising events held in the school and invitations are extended to attend our end of term assemblies.
Liaison between Caldervale High School and its feeder primary schools takes place regularly. The head teachers of the schools meet three times per year to discuss shared interests and concerns and to agree liaison arrangements for the session. Pupils from P7 visit Caldervale on several occasions throughout the year and are invited to attend special events. Teaching staff from Caldervale visit the school to meet the pupils and discuss pupil progress with their class teacher.
