Cleland Primary
We are situated in the village of Cleland and serve the villages of Hareshaw and Bellside. We are associated with Coltness High School and a liaison with the secondary school and associated primary schools is firmly established to the benefit of our pupils.
The accommodation comprises of six classrooms, a library and resource area, a computer suite - shared with Community Education, a main office, staff-room and head teacher's office. The dining room is housed in a separate building adjacent to the school. We have eight teaching staff and seven non-teaching staff.
HMI completed a standard inspection of the school in May 1999, with the follow up visit completed in October 2001.
The aims of the school are:
- continue to raise achievement
- provide a broad and challenging curriculum through effective learning and teaching
- recognise talents and celebrate success
- empower children to become responsible members of their community
Extra curricular activities include football, netball and chanter lessons. A mixture of staff and parents takes these classes. The PTA and school board are very active and supportive and we have a strong core of parent helpers who work with teachers and pupils.
Promoting positive behaviour is high on our agenda as is our minimising bullying campaign.
We welcome enquiries and visits to the school by parents and outside agencies. Parent interviews are arranged whenever necessary, in addition to the twice yearly formal meetings when parents and pupils meet teachers by appointment. Parent workshops and information evenings are offered throughout the year.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Cleland Primary normally transfer to Coltness High School
