Cumbernauld Primary
Cumbernauld Primary is a non-denominational co-educational school for children from four to twelve years old. We care about knowing, understanding and developing our pupils.
You can find out all about us by visiting our school website, by using the link at the right of this page.
We came into this new building on 6 January 2003 and happily share our campus with our partners in education at St Andrew's Primary and Nursery Class. We have our own separate teaching side of the school and joint use of the social areas such as the playground, library, dining room, gym hall. The schools join together for various shows and activities throughout the year which benefits both schools.
At present we have a roll of 530 and a working capacity of 660.
Children have the opportunity to take part in a variety of extra curricular activities within the school. Many of these take the form of after school clubs which can be run by teaching staff from either school or by visiting specialists. A music tutor visits our school once a week to give tuition on brass instruments.
Each year, children have the opportunity to go on a school trip. This will generally be during the summer term and can be linked to class projects. For example, classes have made visits to Stirling Castle, The Glasgow Science Centre and the East Fortune Museum of Flight.
We communicate with our parents in a variety of ways. We have a vibrant website with all of the latest school news for pupils and parents. This includes class pages with thoughts and words from the children and many photographs and videos of our children at work and play. A tour of the school is also available. We also have a monthly newsletter and make use of the SMS text messaging to inform and remind parents about important matters and events.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Cumbernauld primary normally transfer to Cumbernauld High School.
Our transition links begin in primary five to help smooth the path to high school for our young people.
