Connecting places - Cumbernauld

We are investing in connecting North Lanarkshire.

Our vision is to improve the connectivity to and between North Lanarkshire's places and spaces.

We are making our communities and facilities more accessible and improving connections between:

  • communities
  • education
  • job and training opportunities
  • leisure facilities
  • greenspaces
  • local services

To do this we are investing in our:

  • new roads to improve local road networks
  • public transport facilities
  • active travel network

Through Glasgow City Region City Deal infrastructure investment we are investing in new roads, public transport facilities and active travel routes at Gartcosh/Glenboig Community Growth Area, the A8/M8 Corridor and between the M74 and M8 through our ambitious Pan Lanarkshire Orbital Transport Corridor project. This will enable the regeneration of Ravenscraig and the development of the East Airdrie Link Road to achieve wider economic, social and environmental benefits across North Lanarkshire.

Through City Deal funding we are creating:

  • new roads
  • cycling and walking routes
  • improving public transport facilities

This will:

  • create economic growth and jobs
  • unlock places where development has slowed down
  • improve access to jobs, education and training opportunities

As part of our Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan and the work of our Infrastructure and Transportation Service, we are:

  • improving local roads and junctions
  • improving public transport infrastructure
  • delivering active travel route improvements

The Active Travel Strategy aims to create a wide range of connections across North Lanarkshire that can be used for everyday journeys such as travelling for:

  • employment
  • education
  • meeting essential needs
  • recreation

There is more information available on projects and proposals that are connecting places in the Cumbernauld Board area.
