Scheme extension
The Fuel Hardship Payment scheme has been extended until 31 March 2023.
Who can apply
To be eligible for this one-off payment of £150 you must be:
- A householder* living in North Lanarkshire (applications are limited to one per household).
- In work on a low income (check thresholds below).
*A householder is a person responsible for paying utility bills and rent/mortgage for the home they live in.
Eligible income thresholds
The purpose of this fund is to assist residents who are on a low income but earn a little too much to be eligible for any other cost of living financial assistance being provided either by the Scottish or UK Governments.
There are different income thresholds depending on your age and circumstances. In all cases there is no longer a lower income limit but in order to be eligible for this payment applicants must NOT receive any means-tested benefits.* This is to make sure we are helping people who cannot get help elsewhere.
*means tested benefits include Universal Credit, child and working tax credits, income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), income-based Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit.
Please check the table below for upper income limits:
Circumstances | Upper limit (net per year*) |

Single person | £20,400 (this works out as a gross annual salary of just over £24,000) |
Couple with no children | £27,400 |
Single parent | £29,753 (this works out as a gross annual salary of around £38,000) |
Couple with children | £38,357 |
Please note any disability benefits (DLA/PIP/AA) are disregarded and not included as income.
