Child care assessment

Assessing children and young people's needs

The needs of young people, their families and carers are regularly assessed by a variety of professionals in order to identify appropriate resources which will meet those needs.

Underpinned by a legislative framework, the Children (Scotland) Act 1995, social workers, teachers, health professionals, housing officers, the police as well as carers and young people themselves, can contribute to a multi-agency assessment of need.

This assessment is used to formulate a care plan which will clearly identify resources required in order to support a young person's needs.

Carers, parents and young people as well as being involved in the assessment process can receive a copy of the completed assessment.
