How your donation can help

Group at the finish line

Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland, based in Cumbernauld, is the only specialist charity in Scotland providing a lifetime commitment of support services, training and projects for everyone affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Lanarkshire has one of the highest incidences of spina bifida in Scotland, so fundraising at the Cumbernauld 10k event can help change lives in our community.

Spina Bifida is a fault in the spinal column in which one or more vertebrae (the bones which form the backbone) fail to form properly, leaving a gap or split, causing damage to the nervous system.

Hydrocephalus is a condition that affects the brain and how it functions. It can occur at any age but is more common in infants.

The charity's Direct Services and Project Teams have specialist knowledge of the conditions and are available to provide information, advice and support not only to those affected, their parents, carers and families but also to those working in healthcare, education and employment in order to ensure that children, young people and adults all receive the treatment, schooling, employment and future they deserve.

The charity offers a number of services available including a helpline, family support service, local family support groups and information leaflets.

£1 from every entry to the 10k goes to SBH Scotland and participants have the option to make a further charity donation. If you would like to run for the charity, please call 03455 211 600 or visit the charity's web site.
