Summer Arts Festival concert - a celebration of music, dance and drama

The talents of pupils from special needs schools shone as they entertained guests with an evening of music, dance and drama at Motherwell Concert Hall

Around two hundred young people took part in this year's Summer Arts Festival on Wednesday 23 May, which included Samba Bands, classical and popular songs.

Pupils from Bothwellpark, Firpark Secondary School, Buchanan High Schools along with New Stevenston PS, St Patrick's, Clydeview, Firpark, Drumpark, Greenhil and St Stephen's primaries and Glencryan and Redburn schools all took part in the concert.

Cllr Frank McNally, Convener of Education, said: "Many of the young people who took part would not normally have the opportunity to perform in a venue like the concert hall and before such a large audience.

"Creating such a great opportunity for them to exhibit their talents is what the Summer Arts Festival is all about.

He added: "The arts festival is an opportunity for many young people across our schools to showcase their achievements."

The evening was hosted by former BBC weather presenter Heather Reid.
