North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band win European Championships

Band crowned 'Novice B' winners on Saturday 30 June


North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band continued their successful year by winning the Novice B grade European Championships at Grant Park in Forres. 

This latest title adds to their Scottish Schools and British Championship wins this season.

The band was led by Pipe Major Darren Somerville, who used to play for the North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band as a pupil. He said: "There were eleven bands taking part in the category with one travelling from Australia - the standard is really good and I'm so proud of what we have achieved.

"With most pupils were heading off on summer holidays this talented group of pupils travelled on Friday morning from Coatbridge High School for a practice and overnight stay in Aviemore in preparation for the championship.

The band will travel to Dumbarton to compete in the Scottish Pipe Band Championships on 28 July, before finishing the season at the World Pipe Band Championships at Glasgow Green on 18 August.
