Piper Alpha 30th anniversary memorial

A short ceremony took place at Strathclyde Park on Friday 6 July in memory of the six North Lanarkshire men who died on the offshore disaster

Henry Brown from Coatbridge, Robert Cleland from Cumbernauld, Hugh Connor from Motherwell, Thomas I Duncan from Motherwell, William H Kelly from Cumbernauld and Thomas O' N McEwan also of Cumbernauld perished on that fateful night on the Piper Alpha platform in the North Sea.

It was, and remains, the world's worst offshore disaster; some 167 people lost their lives.

Cllr Jim Logue, Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, laid a wreath at the Piper Alpha monument in Strathclyde Park along with local councillors.
