Marking 100 years of Catholic education in Scotland

A special event was held at Motherwell Concert Hall on Thursday 8 November

Lord Bishop Toal, Lord Lieutenant Lady Haughey and Provost McAllan of South Lanarkshire and Provost Jones of North Lanarkshire were among the guests.

Bishop Toal said: "The event was a wonderful celebration of Catholic schools and reaffirmed and cemented the partnership between our diocese and both North and South Lanarkshire Councils. The Diocese of Motherwell are very grateful to both councils and our own 2018 committee for the organisation the event."

And all 86 Catholic schools from across Lanarkshire were represented by staff, pupils and parents.

Provost Jean Jones said: "The civic reception served as an opportunity to mark and rejoice in the academic, cultural, civic and social achievements of pupils who have attended Catholic schools over the last 100 years."

The event marked the 100th anniversary of the Education (Scotland) Act of 21 November which saw Catholic schools transfer from Diocesan control to state governance.
