New play area opens in Cairnhill

Pupils from Rochsolloch and All Saints Primary schools, along with local councillors Paul Di Mascio and Ian McNeil, gathered to celebrate the official opening of the new play area at Cromarty Road

Cairn-Wood Play Park, as it will now be known, boasts a range of great equipment including swings, a toddler and a junior climbing unit, plus spinners, springers and a dish roundabout for children to enjoy.

Pupils were invited to take part in a competition to design a sign and name the new play area.

The winners were announced on the day and prizes, which had been kindly donated by Police Scotland and North Lanarkshire Leisure, were awarded to Rochsolloch's Megan Mulhern, Orla Watson, Alex McCluskey.

Airdrie Local Area Partnership allocated £40,500 from the Local Development Programme to develop this wonderful new facility.

Cairn-Wood play area prize winners Councillor Alan Beveridge, Convener of the Local Area Partnership, said: ''This is a fantastic new facility and we hope to see lots of local children and families here enjoying themselves over the coming months and years."

Matt Costello, North Lanarkshire Council, Community Partnership Manager, added "We are delighted to support this development and pleased that funding from the Local  Development Programme can provide such a fantastic play space for young people in Cairnhill."
