Milestone reached at £37m Cumbernauld Academy and Cumbernauld Theatre project

Construction passed a key point recently and has progressed to the weathertight stage

The character of the development, being built next to the current Cumbernauld Academy, is now becoming increasingly apparent as the project enters the later stages of construction.

The site team has been completing external features of the build including the striking brickwork and zinc cladding, which is becoming more visible as the scaffolding is taken down.

Internal works will continue in the coming weeks shaping the inside characteristics of the facility through partitioning, decorating and services installation of the building and energy centre.

Cllr Frank McNally, Convener of Education, said: "The new campus will provide outstanding educational and community benefits for everyone in and around Cumbernauld. It's an exciting moment in the construction ahead of its opening later next year."

Once the work has been completed the current school buildings will be demolished to make way for external sports facilities.

The new campus will have capacity for 1250 secondary pupils and a 300-seat replacement venue for the current Cumbernauld Theatre.

The £37m development is being built by Morrison Construction in partnership with hub South West and North Lanarkshire Council.
