Support helps businesses grow and create new jobs

New and existing businesses have benefitted from the support and advice provided by Business Gateway Lanarkshire in the last financial year.

In Lanarkshire in 2018/19, the service helped in the launch of 1,000 new companies, with one-to-one expert knowledge from a dedicated local business advisor.

Another 554 companies took part in the Growth Service, assisting them with their growth plans, which will create an estimated 3,351 new jobs over the next three years and increase their cumulative turnover by over £413 million.

Of these, 94 companies are exporting products or plan to open new markets overseas in the near future, raising an estimated £64 million in international sales.

"Lanarkshire is an excellent location for businesses, but additionally they have access to a wide range of free, impartial expert knowledge and advice from Business Gateway and the council," said Yvonne Weir, Enterprise Manager at North Lanarkshire Council.

"This includes up to three days of free consultancy in specialist areas such as marketing, finance, strategy and digital technology. Business Gateway also run events and workshops as well as offering access to key economic market research to inform decision making.

"This is all delivered by expert advisors who work closely with each business to understand their particular needs and aspirations and help identify how to take them to the next stage of business growth."

Adele Muir of North Lanarkshire Working said: "North Lanarkshire's Working is committed to providing targeted employment support to its residents across the area.

"Working closely with local employers, such as The Academy of Clinical Training and Urban Retreat, our Prospects Programme seeks to support employers in the area with their recruitment needs by matching suitable unemployed residents in the area with current vacancies.

"By matching local people with expanding local employers, we aim to contribute to the ambitious growth of the North Lanarkshire economy."
