The state-of-the-art equipment has adjustable pistons which allow users to increase the resistance experienced during workouts.

There's also a downloadable free app to track your fitness progress as well as providing helpful tips.

The gym equipment is suitable for use by anyone over the age of 14. The project cost £60,000 and was fully funded by North Lanarkshire Council through the Community Matters (Locality Partnerships) programme.

Councillor Jim Logue, leader of the council, officially opened the gym and praised the project. He said, "this is a fantastic new gym which will be of great benefit to both local people and the wider North Lanarkshire community.  It enhances the existing facilities at Airdrie Leisure Centre and I would encourage everyone to come along and try the gym and enjoy some exercise in the fresh air."

Matt Costello, Community Partnership Manager from North Lanarkshire Council said: 'This is an excellent example of Community Matters (Locality Partnerships) developing a much needed community resource which will be enjoyed by local people for years to come."
