Consultation on removal of public payphones

BT asking for communities' views

BT is proposing to remove 13 public payphones in North Lanarkshire and is asking local communities for their views.

Use of payphones has declined by over 90% in the last decade, and the need to provide payphones for use in emergency situations is reducing all the time with at least 98% of the UK having 3G or 4G coverage. As long as there is network coverage, it is now possible to call the emergency services even if you don't have credit or coverage from your own mobile provider.

More information is available here.
