Colzium is a star attraction!

A new visitor centre and café has helped Colzium Lennox Estate, Kilsyth receive an upgraded 3 star rating from the Scottish Tourist Board

Colzium three stars

The £900,000 improvement project saw the former Clock Theatre converted into a visitor centre with audio visual displays about the estate's history and wildlife, as well as a garden café with outdoor seating overlooking the magnificent walled garden.

Managed by CultureNL, these areas are now fully accessible, with disabled toilet facilities. Admission to the visitor centre and wider estate grounds is free.

A report by Visit Scotland to assess Colzium Lennox Estate for the visitor attraction grading praised the new interpretation and film in the visitor centre as excellent. It also praised CultureNL staff for their pleasant approach to visitors and knowledge of the estate and its facilities.

"This three star rating is fantastic recognition of the quality of visitor attraction service we provide at Colzium Estate," said Councillor Heather McVey, member of the Friends of Colzium and former Chair of CultureNL Ltd.

"The feedback from the Scottish Board was really positive and they highlighted the QR codes on interpretation around the park, which was a Kilsyth Community Council initiative, as a great idea.

"The historic house and visitor centre is set among beautifully landscaped gardens and parkland, and there are a network of paths, an adventure playground and a beautiful walled garden to explore.

"Colzium Lennox Estate is a regular place to visit for many local residents and we hope this upgrading by VisitScotland will encourage more tourists to come and enjoy this hidden gem, visit Kilsyth and discover the beauty of the wider Kelvin Valley."

Friends of Colzium have hosted events in Colzium House including house tours and special exhibitions bringing over 2500 additional visitors and working with CNL museums to bring Kilsyth artefacts to the house and museum.

The improvements were funded through North Lanarkshire Council, the Scottish Government's Vacant and Derelict Land Fund and Kelvin Valley and Falkirk LEADER Programme,
