Tackling Poverty

We are committed to tackling poverty and inequality to ensure that North Lanarkshire is a place where everyone can live, learn, work, invest and visit.

Challenge Poverty Week: 7 - 13 October 2019

North Lanarkshire Council and its partners have a number of services available to help people and provide advice and assistance. As part of Challenge Poverty Week we will also be holding the following free public events to provide information, advice and assistance. There will also be events and education taking place in schools during the week.

Community Matters events will be held throughout the week across North Lanarkshire. They are a great opportunity for local communities to come along and hear about a range of important issues affecting your local community. Along with council staff there will be opportunities to speak to other partners including Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, VANL and local community groups. This is a real opportunity to get your voice heard and be part of the decision making process for your local area. Come along and play your part in Community Matters!

We know that you cannot help a child without helping the home and community. We are producing a Tackling Poverty Strategy which will ensure a co-ordinated approach to tackling poverty and inequalities across our communities. North Lanarkshire Council and NHS Lanarkshire have produced a Local Child Poverty Action Report which details what we are committed to doing and plan to do to tackle child poverty across our towns. You can view and download the action report to the right of this page.

We recognise in North Lanarkshire there are three main drivers to tackle poverty and inequality:
