Business grants boost innovation and growth

Twenty one business projects in North Lanarkshire have received grant funding totaling £68,463 from the Business Transformation Fund.

In the third rounding of funding in 2019/20, the grants will help create 29 new jobs, safeguard another 117 jobs and help the companies grow their turnover by £3.25 million over the next year.

The Business Transformation Fund is managed by North Lanarkshire Council and is designed to boost innovation, digitisation, market growth and low carbon business activities.

Some of the businesses to benefit from grant awards include:

  • Ferro Fabrication Ltd, Cumbernauld - £6,000 capital expenditure grant
  • DVI Technologies Ltd, Stepps - £700 consultancy grant
  • Papillon Private Nursery Ltd, Coatbridge - £5,962.50 capital expenditure grant
  • The Health and Wellness Hub Ltd, Motherwell - £3,810 capital expenditure and training grants
  • Arvill Plant & Tool Hire Ltd, Airdrie - £6,000 capital expenditure and infrastructure grants
  • Bio Cleansers Ltd, Newhouse - £2,875 consultancy grant
  • Gas Sensing Solutions Ltd, Cumbernauld - £6,250 capital expenditure and exhibition grants
  • Matic Media Services Ltd, Coatbridge - £6,000 capital expenditure grant
  • My Roofcare Ltd, Coatbridge - £3,756 consultancy and exhibition grants.

Yvonne Weir, Enterprise Manager at North Lanarkshire Council, commented: "Demand for our Business Transformation Grant scheme remains buoyant. We continue to see a strong pipeline of applications with potential for positive impact on the businesses themselves as well as our wider sector ambitions. 

"Coming up to our fourth and final funding round in March, we would encourage local businesses to access the fund as a means to drive forward development projects and growth in 2020."

The Business Transformation Fund can provide 50% grant funding across five funding streams including:

  • Capital Expenditure - purchase of plant, equipment or machinery. £6,000 maximum grant
  • Infrastructure Improvement - business premises expansion, conversion or improvement. £6,000 maximum grant
  • Consultancy Support- external support to develop a growth project. £3,000 maximum grant
  • Exhibition Support- participate at a UK / overseas industry event or trade show as an exhibitor or visitor. £3,000 maximum grant
  • Training Support- raise skill levels to improve competence and productivity. £2,000 maximum grant

Grant support has enabled Eclipse Dental Laboratory Ltd, based in Cumbernauld, to invest in a 3d printer and post-curing unit. The laboratory specialises in the production of high quality ceramic dental products including veneers, inlay and onlay, crowns, bridgework and implants. Business Transformation funding adds to recent investment made by the company in CAD/CAM CNC milling and scanning digital technologies. 

Mr Piotr Konecki, Tech Director, Dental Tech commented: "This investment will enable faster production than hand-made processes and provide additional productive capacity to grow the business. We firmly believe that you do not have to be big to deliver on quality and service."

The deadline for Round 4 of the 2019/20 Business Transformation Fund is 4pm on Friday 13 March 2020.  Applications from businesses operating in the following key sectors are encouraged: manufacturing, logistics, food and drink, health and social care, life sciences, creative industries, tourism, construction, social enterprise and energy.
