The school is well supported by the janitor, clerical assistants, classroom assistants and additional support needs assistants. There are also cleaning and catering staff.

The school offers a broad general education from early level through to second level experiences and outcomes across the curricular areas described in the Curriculum for Excellence.

The school recognizes the benefits from open and regular communication between staff and parents. We hold Newstimes, led by our young people, who are keen to share with parents what they have been learning. We celebrate our Scottish culture by hosting a Tartan Tea. Each year pupils have the opportunity to participate in the school's Christmas Show. In June, we have a Sports Day, which is always well supported by parents.

We have a very active Parent Council and fund raising committee who meet regularly to organize various events such as Family Fun nights, sales and discos. They produce their own Newsletter to keep the Parent Forum informed about their activities. Money raised by the committee has been used to purchase interactive Smartboards to enhance learning and teaching and to sponsor the annual award ceremony.

There are opportunities for pupils to learn outside the classroom. Outings usually take place throughout the session and are related to curricular projects. Each year our Primary 7 class visits Kilbowie Outdoor Centre in Oban for a residential trip.

To encourage pupils to be successful learners, we offer many extra curricular activities including tennis, mini fit, art and design, craft making and the gardening club.

Pupils too are given responsible roles and we have a Pupil Council, Junior Road Safety Officers as well as House Captains and class monitors.

We work closely with the church, community organisations and businesses in the local area. Pupils are involved in regular fund raising activities for charities chosen by the Pupil Council as well as our business partner, St Andrew's Hospice.

Pupils normally transfer to secondary school between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils normally transfer from Aitkenhead Primary to Uddingston Grammar.
