St Thomas' Primary

St Thomas's Primary School Badge

Saint Thomas' Primary School is a co-educational mainstream primary with 275 children. From August 2012 we will also have a nursery class which can accommodate a maximum of 20/20 pre-school children aged 3-5 years. In our school and nursery we expect that all of our children will be provided with the highest quality of education in a climate where they are safe, valued and treated with dignity and respect.

We believe that in our Catholic School Community we have created a caring, concerned Christian Community where children can develop their full potential in well ordered, stimulating surroundings. There are currently 15 teaching staff and 9 support staff with a janitor. Our building was opened in August 1969. It is currently undergoing some refurbishment.

We strive to ensure that our pupils have opportunity to maximise their achievement and attainment endeavouring to develop children into mature, health conscious, fit and well adjusted young people who are fully equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to successfully continue their education within the secondary sector. We are proud to work closely with our associated secondary school Saint Aidan's High.

Our Home, School, Church Partnership is of great importance, working together and communicating openly ensures best value for all.

Children feel secure in school when the relationship between parents and teachers is a positive one. Parents are invited to the school several times each year to meet class teachers and establish a partnership of caring interest. During the summer term, a programme of visits and workshops is arranged for parents of new entrants. Parents have the opportunity to meet class teachers and become familiar with the equipment and methods, which will be used, in the early stages of reading and number work.

Regular communication by letter, via the children, or text message helps keep parents informed of any changes affecting normal routines and any matters of current interest.

We have a very active Parents Association and Parent Council. Parent helpers are involved in our structured play programme P1 to P3. Parents have the opportunity to be involved in our educational outings as helpers.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from St Thomas' normally transfer to St Aidan's High School, Wishaw.
