Councillor Agnes Magowan (Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig) was elected as Provost and Councillor Anne Thomas (Motherwell North) is Depute Provost.
Councillor Linden said: “It’s a privilege to be elected as leader of the council. The administration I will lead is determined to deliver on our manifesto commitments. In doing so, we will increase opportunities for people and businesses across all the communities we serve.
“In delivering those commitments we will increase the engagement we have with people, including on all the big decisions which affect their lives. We will take a fairer, more inclusive approach to decision-making, strengthening relationships with people across North Lanarkshire.
“I know that the cost of living is at the forefront of people’s minds. We don’t underestimate the difficulty rising prices for energy, food and clothing cause. While the council can’t solve these problems alone, we will do everything we can to support people.
“That means working with people, with the Scottish Government, with local partners and with council staff to build strong, resilient partnerships and seeking consensus across the council about the big decision that lie ahead.”
Councillor Magowan added: “To represent all the people of North Lanarkshire as the civic head is a real honour, and it’s a role I’m looking forward to hugely.
“I’m particularly looking forward to recognising the achievements of people and groups across North Lanarkshire and celebrating the diversity of people who do so much for the communities they live in.”
Other appointments to committee and representative roles will be made at a future council meeting.
