The Coronation of His Majesty The King, 6-8 May 2023

People across North Lanarkshire are invited to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty The King over the weekend of 6-8 May 2023.

The Coronation of His Majesty The King 6-8 May 2023

The Coronation of His Majesty The King will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023 at Westminster Abbey, London where His Majesty King Charles III will be crowned alongside The Queen Consort.

The Provost of North Lanarkshire, Councillor Kenneth Duffy, said: “The Coronation is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the community spirit that is so evident across North Lanarkshire and I would encourage businesses, organisations and people in our communities to spend time with family, friends and neighbours or indeed, to create their own event to celebrate this historic occasion.

“On behalf of the people of North Lanarkshire, I extend our warmest best wishes to His Majesty The King on his coronation.”

The Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, Susan Lady Haughey, said, “This is a historic occasion that provides a marvellous opportunity for people across North Lanarkshire to celebrate the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III in their own local community.

“There are some outstanding initiatives nationwide for people to participate in such as volunteering or to host a big lunch but whatever you do, it’s important to share stories, enjoy the occasion and create some wonderful memories for the future.”

Local events

Why not get together with friends, family and neighbours by organising a Big Lunch? Big Lunches are taking place up and down the country over the Coronation weekend. Find out more about how you can get involved and plot your lunch on the nationwide map.

There’s also lots of opportunities to get involved in helping out in our own local communities as part of The Big Help Out from Monday 8 May. If you can spare an hour, or even a day, check out how you can play your part.

Summerlee Museum of Industrial Life - Coronation Weekend Event

A free event all weekend from Saturday 6, Sunday 7 and Monday 8 May between 10am and 4pm. Lots of family fun at the museum with a small selection of vintage cars, a fun Coronation trail, painting, arts and crafts, live organ music, a throne to re-enact your own coronation, a bouncy castle and lots of outdoor fun. The Coronation will be shown live on site on Saturday 6 May.

Community Grants

Around 75 community groups have received funding from the King’s Coronation Community Grant fund to arrange local events in their own communities.

Extended licensing hours

Coronation message

Both my wife and I are enormously grateful to all the communities, families, neighbours and friends who are coming together across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth to mark our Coronation.

We greatly appreciate everyone’s efforts to organise such celebrations, and very much hope that they will be enjoyable and happy occasions.

As we look towards the future, we feel deeply touched and sustained by the heartfelt good wishes and support of so many kind people around the country.
