The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022

In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022

There are a number of official events that are arranged over the four-day bank holiday weekend from 2 to 6 June 2022, as well as other ideas such as street parties and The Big Jubilee Lunch, that have been set up to encourage members of the public to participate.

We're supporting the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and encouraging communities to get involved. Find out how you can get involved with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

You may want to host your own street party or Jubilee lunch event. If you are planning something bigger, please consider that community groups or organisations are responsible for ensuring any necessary licenses are in place and are compliant with appropriate regulations.  Organisations will be responsible for the clearing up and effective disposal of any refuse following planned projects/events.

Take a look at what we are planning:

Platinum Jubilee Community Grants

As part of our celebrations, a fund was set up to allow community groups and individuals to apply for grants through the Community Partnership team. Applications have now been assessed and these grants will be used for a range of events such as street parties, tea dances, lunches or to spruce up local areas in celebration.

Applications for grants closed on Wednesday 6 April 2022.

Lanarkshire Beacon Lighting

There is a long tradition of lighting beacons to commemorate occasions and this year a beacon will be lit in Strathclyde Country Park as part of the national celebration on the evening of Thursday 2 June 2022.

North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band will play Official Diu Regnare and South Lanarkshire School Choir will sing A Song for the Commonwealth.

Summerlee Museum of Industrial Life Street Party

A celebration of seven decades of the jubilee comes to Summerlee Museum from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June 2022.

Come and visit to see our vintage car show, dancing displays from local community groups, music from a range of local bands, fashion show displays, animals/petting zoo, food and drink displays.

On Sunday 5 June, there will be an official street party offering food, drink and entertainment for the whole family. Find out more about all the fantastic weekend events.

The Queen’s Green Canopy

We are recognising The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by creating three ‘avenues’ of trees at Drumpellier Country Park in Coatbridge, Palacerigg Country Park in Cumbernauld and Duchess of Hamilton Park in Motherwell.

Work to create these wooded areas is underway. Find out more about The Queen’s Green Canopy.

Education Curriculum

Our children and young people will be learning lots of fun and interesting information about the Platinum Jubilee through our digital school and other linked areas of core learning of literacy and numeracy with social studies, STEM and other wider experiences.

Extension to licensed hours for licensed premises

An extension to licensed hours for licensed premises has been granted in respect of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations over the weekend of 2 to 5 June 2022.
