Our commitment to privacy
We (North Lanarkshire Council) are committed to protecting the privacy of those using our website and the confidentiality of any personal information with which subscribers provide us. We will always ensure that your personal information is kept accurate and secure, in line with the Data Protection Act 1998, and we will only collect the minimum information necessary to fulfil a particular purpose; when we don't have a need to keep information about you, it will be disposed of in a secure manner.
We will never share your personal information with third parties for commercial or marketing purposes, without your explicit consent.
We will only share your personal details with other public services to give them the opportunity to keep your details up-to-date. For example, we will share information with North Lanarkshire Leisure if you have a membership with them. The details we share are your name, address, date of birth and gender.
Information and service requests
If you request information or a service via email, letter or telephone, we may need your personal details to process that request.
There is a range of online forms to allow you to make comment or request particular services. Some forms are available to fill in anonymously, where others require you login and provide your details. If you are required to provide personal information we will use it only to process your request and thereafter in accordance with the individual Data Protection registrations for the services provided.
To help us monitor website trends and statistics, our web server collects visitor information such as IP address, city or country of origin, type of browser and operating system used, pages visited and duration of visit. These statistics are anonymised and we do not use this information to identify individuals.

This web analytics tool helps us understand how visitors engage with our sites. We can review reports about how visitors interact with our website and this helps us improve it. Google Analytics collects information anonymously. It reports website trends without identifying individual visitors. You can opt out from Google Analytics if you wish.
Local Shared Objects (Flash cookies)
North Lanarkshire Council sometimes uses Adobe Flash Player to deliver its video content. To improve user experience, Local Shared Objects - or Flash cookies as they are commonly known - are employed to provide features such as auto-resume and for saving your preferences. Flash cookies are stored on a user's terminal much the same as cookies are, however it is not possible to manage them at browser level in the same way.

Cookies set by third party sites
We sometimes embed photos and video content from websites such as YouTube and Flickr, for example. As a result, when you visit a page with content embedded from, for example, YouTube or Flickr, you may be presented with cookies from these websites.
