Change to the alternate weekly collection service

The information on this page is for residents who received a letter advising their blue recycling bin will be removed and that they will return to a weekly collection of general waste.

Why are you removing my recycling collection?

We continually monitor the quality of recycling material we collect from households. Unfortunately, contamination levels in the blue bin across your collection route are now at a level that the materials are unfit to be recycled. This means we have to pay a high fee for disposal.  As a result, the alternate weekly collection service is no longer sustainable and will be removed.

What will happen to my blue bin?

Please present your blue bin for collection by 7am on the day stated in your letter and leave the bin out after it has been emptied. It will be removed later that day.

My blue bin wasn’t removed after collection, what should I do?

Please leave the bin out and if it is not removed by 9pm then please email recycling@northlan.gov.uk with your address and we will arrange for removal.

When will my general waste bin be emptied?

It will be emptied every week on the collection day stated in your letter.

I use my blue bin to recycle, why can’t I keep my blue bin?

There will be residents who have used their blue bin to recycle household materials however this effort is undone by the extremely high levels of contamination recorded across the full route.

I want to keep recycling how can I do this?

If you would like to continue to recycle there are recycling points located across North Lanarkshire, for more information please click the related content link on this page.

I have space for four recycling bins can I move to the three-weekly collection service?

If you feel that you have space then please email recycling@northlan.gov.uk and we will contact you to discuss your options.

My nearest recycling point is quite far from my home, can you put one closer to me?

Please email recycling@northlan.gov.uk with your suggested location for a communal recycling point and we can consider if it is a suitable place to locate a recycling point.
