We have recently become aware that one of our contractors has experienced a cyber incident. The Scottish Cyber Coordination Centre is supporting this contractor with its investigation. This incident has not affected council systems, and no financial information has been compromised. The incident has been reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
While investigations are ongoing, it has now been identified that personal contact information for a limited number of individuals may have been compromised. Understandably, those individuals may be concerned but it is important to reiterate that no financial information has been compromised. Any individual affected is being contacted directly to make them aware of the situation, with appropriate advice and support given. We would advise that you should continue to take normal measures to protect yourself, exercise caution and remain vigilant in relation to any suspicious communications which you may receive
If you are contacted by someone claiming to have your data, you should contact Police Scotland on 101 or call the Cyber Incident Response Helpline on 0800 1670 623. You can also report this in person at any police station.
