Tower re-provisioning

We are committed to identifying and improving future housing options for people living in high-rise homes in North Lanarkshire.

In 2017, we announced a major change in our housing policy in consultation with the residents of North Lanarkshire, with plans agreed to demolish a number of towers and low-rise blocks and replace them with modern homes fit for the future. This forms part of our Plan for North Lanarkshire, which includes providing 5000 new affordable homes for rent by 2035.

Phase 1 update

Phase 1 of our reprovisioning programme is on track with 94% of the properties identified now vacant. Our ambition to replace all tower blocks and some low-rise flats with high quality, modern, energy efficient homes is becoming a reality with building and regeneration works now ongoing across our communities.

Phase 2 regeneration proposals

As phase 1 of our regeneration plans have progressed, we are now moving on to phase 2.

Phase 2 regeneration plans identified several prominent multi-storey blocks in Motherwell, a tower in Coatbridge and low-rise blocks in Airdrie, Coatbridge, Kilsyth, Motherwell & Wishaw for potential demolition.  Following a consultation exercise carried out in May 2023, where over 80% of residents within the second phase of the re-provisioning programme advised they were in favour of our proposals, a report was submitted to the Housing committee in August 2023 where the proposals for the next phase were approved.

Properties included in Phase 2 demolition programme

All residents of the blocks included within the phase 2 will be contacted as the programme progresses by staff from the local housing offices.

If you require any further information please contact your local housing office.
