Recycling centres

Our Household Waste Recycling Centres will reopen on Monday 1 June for black bag waste and cardboard only. A maximum of 20 bags will be accepted.

Vehicles will not be allowed access to the centres if they have more than the maximum amount of waste or other types of waste.

The centres are only open for North Lanarkshire residents. You must bring photo identification and proof of your address when you visit a centre.

To maintain physical distancing rules, we will restrict the number of cars allowed on site at any time.

We expect the centres to be very busy, especially at first, so queues are likely - please be patient.

When you are in the centre, please follow physical distancing rules and stay at least two metres away from others.

Only vans up to 3.5t gross weight and single axle trailers will be allowed into the centres with a maximum 20 black bags. No commercial waste allowed. Vans will be checked before entering the site.

Do not dump rubbish outside the recycling centres - this will be considered as fly tipping and anyone caught will face a £200 Fixed Penalty Notice.

We operate six household waste recycling centres for North Lanarkshire residents. The sites are open seven days a week including some public holidays (closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day). The centres are only licensed to accept domestic household waste and cannot accept Commercial waste.

If you are a business and need to dispose of commercial waste, you can find details of appropriately licensed sites online or consult a waste disposal directory.

Opening hours

Airdrie, Bellshill, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld and Netherton centres are open Mondays to Saturdays 7am to 6pm and Sundays 7am to 5.30pm.

Shotts is open Mondays to Saturdays 8am to 6pm and Sundays 8am to 5.30pm.

Last entry is ten minutes before closing time.

In order to improve recycling rates:

  • Residents will be asked to assist in the recycling of material by placing each material in the appropriate designated skip or container.
  • Recycling attendants will be on site to provide assistance.
  • Only household waste will be accepted (no commercial).

If you intend to use a van or a single axle trailer to transport waste to the site, a booking system is in operation. Find out more about Van or trailer access at recycling centres
