Psychology making a difference: Improving life chances for all children in North Lanarkshire

North Lanarkshire Psychological Services

The mission of our Psychological Service is to improve life chances for all children in North Lanarkshire. We aim to do this by applying psychological knowledge and research. We work at all times in the best interests of children and young people, placing their needs at the centre of our core practice.

We believe that psychological knowledge and skills play a unique and crucial role in improving services to children. Our work is underpinned by sound, evidence based practice and by continuous striving to enhance outcomes for children and young people.

Local authority psychological services are statutory services whose primary legislative function is to assist councils to fulfil their duties in meeting the additional support needs of the 0-24 population and to provide advice under the terms of the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968.  Psychologists have five core functions - assessment, intervention, consultation, training and research.

Psychological Service staff are regulated by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and operate within its ethical and professional frameworks.
