Building You a Better Future - Regeneration Proposals for your area

Information for residents

The first stage of consultation is now beginning on the council's ambitious plans for the demolition of its 48 residential tower blocks over the next 20 years.  These plans form part of our strategy to provide better homes, regenerate town centres and create jobs, while investing around half a billion pounds across North Lanarkshire.

The flats identified in the first phase are:

  • Merrick Court / Cheviot Court / Pentland Court, Northburn Place, Airdrie
  • Fintry/Tinto/Sidlaw/Nevis/Pentland/Cheviot/Ettrick/Campsie/Etive/Striven/Killin,Shawhead,
  • Dunbeth Court/Highcoats/Jackson Court, Coatbridge
  • Allershaw Tower and Birkshaw Tower and council managed low rise flats, Gowkthrapple
  • Allan/Coursington and Draffen Towers, Motherwell

We want to gather a clear understanding of people's needs for future housing in their towns and communities, and all individual views of our residents will be fully considered.

In April, residents living in the towers and flats above were all invited to attend a series of open days to discuss the plans and were given the opportunity to tell us their views on the proposals by completing a survey.  The results of the survey can be found pdf icon here [760kb].

A report was presented to Enterprise and Housing Committee on Thursday 10 May 2018 where the proposals for the initial phase were approved.
