Building You a Better Future - Regeneration Proposals for your area

Information for residents

We are making good progress with our ambitious and exciting plans to transform communities across North Lanarkshire. We want to change the skylines of our towns by replacing our 48 tower blocks and some low rise flats with modern homes that meet the needs of local people now and in the future. These plans form part of our strategy to provide better homes, regenerate town centres and create jobs, while investing around half a billion pounds across North Lanarkshire.

Our consultation on the proposals, carried out in April 2018 with residents in the proposed first phase of the programme, found that overwhelmingly residents were in favour of plans to demolish the flats and re-develop the sites over the next 20 years.

The flats identified in the first phase are:

  • Merrick Court / Cheviot Court / Pentland Court, Northburn Place, Airdrie

  • Fintry/Tinto/Sidlaw/Nevis/Pentland/Cheviot/Ettrick/Campsie/Etive/Striven/Killin,Shawhead,

  • Dunbeth Court/Highcoats/Jackson Court, Coatbridge

  • Allershaw Tower and Birkshaw Tower and council managed low rise flats, Gowkthrapple

  • Allan/Coursington and Draffen Towers, Motherwell

Consultation included a series of open days to discuss the plans and the opportunity to complete a survey. The results of the survey can be found pdf icon here [760kb].

Carrying out consultation enables us to gather a clear understanding of people's needs for future housing in their towns and communities, and all individual views of our residents will be fully considered as plans progress. Following this consultation a report was submitted in May 2018 to the Enterprise and Housing Committee where proposals for the initial phase were approved.

We will keep residents regularly updated as plans progress and more detailed information can be found in our newsletters. The latest issue of of our pdf icon newsletter [226kb] is now available.
