Listed buildings

Over 300 buildings in North Lanarkshire have been listed by Scottish Ministers as being Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.

Owners of listed building should be aware they are responsible for the maintenance of their properties.

Listing is the formal Planning recognition that a building or structure is of 'special' interest.

These are listed by Historic Environment Scotland on behalf of Scottish Ministers and they provide further details regarding listing reasons and process.

You can contact them for advice on listed buildings or to request a building be added or removed from their list.

What extra controls are there for listed properties?

Any alteration, external or internal, considered to affect the building's character requires an application for listed building consent.

If you are interested in making changes to a listed building, then you should refer to the supplementary guidance below.
