Frequently Asked Questions
1.What is the proposed date and time of the blowdown?
A: The exact date and time are yet to be confirmed. However, the simultaneous blowdown of the 3 towers is expected to take place during the final quarter of 2025, subject to arrangements. Residents and stakeholders will be given a minimum of four weeks’ notice ahead of the scheduled event.
2. Why is it necessary to leave my home or business during the blowdown?
A: This is a precautionary safety measure to protect the health and wellbeing of residents and businesses in the immediate area. In the interest of public safety, a minimum exclusion zone of 150m has been established surrounding each tower. The exclusion zone will be controlled via sentries including stewards and enforced by the police, strategically positioned and in radio contact with the control / firing point.
3. What time will residents and stakeholders within the exclusion zone need to vacate their properties / premises? How long will they be away and will respite areas be provided?
A: The specific date and time of the blowdown are still to be confirmed. You will receive notice in advance. NLC are planning to provide a drop in respite area for affected residents during the blowdown. We require residents to be vacated from the exclusion zone for a total of approximately 6 hours.
4. What dust control measures will be in place during the blowdown?
A: A suitable dust suppression system will be in place as part of the blowdown event. Local roads and footpaths will be cleaned post blowdown prior to re-opening. Residents are advised to close all windows and vents during this event.
5. Will there be any hazardous dust or debris, such as asbestos, released during the blowdown?
A: No. All asbestos containing materials will be removed safely and in full prior to the blowdown. The towers will also be fully soft stripped of all internal fixtures and fittings.
6. Will there be any noise or disruption to residents during the proprietary works?
A: Noise levels during this phase should not increase significantly, and no major disruption to residents is anticipated. No drilling works will commence before 08.00 and will be complete by 17.00 Monday to Friday and 09.00 to 13.00 Saturday (optional)
7. What if I or a member of my household has health or mobility issues and cannot easily leave the property? Is support available?
A: Yes. If you or as family member require support due to health or mobility concerns, please contact Nicola Carmichael (Programme Liaison Officer) on 07853 045618 or email Carmichaelnic@northlan.gov.uk. We will discuss your individual needs directly with you.
