Motherwell Towers Demolition

The skyline of Motherwell will change later this year with the planned demolition of Allan, Coursington, and Draffen Towers through a single controlled blowdown.

This method, confirmed as the safest and most effective by expert engineers, aims to minimise disruption to the local community.

Information update for local residents and businesses

Weekend Working - updated 21 August 2025

Our contractor will be carrying out some weekend work on the towers from Saturday 30 August, and then on alternate weekends after that.

  • Hours: 8am - 6pm
  • Drilling: Saturdays only, between 9am - 5pm

This work is important to keep us on track for the planned demolition (blowdown) later this year, and we really appreciate your patience and understanding while we complete this final stage.

Safety measures

An exclusion zone will be created around the site, with temporary road and footpath closures as required.

The zone includes 313 properties, including 11 commercial businesses.

It will be closed to the public on the day but emergency services will retain access up until the moment of demolition.
