County Grand Lodge Central Scotland Boyne celebrations, Wishaw

A public parade involving an estimated 8,000 participants will take place in Wishaw on Saturday 11 July. As a result, there will be a number of road closures and parking restrictions in place, managed by Police Scotland.

Parade route

Participants will meet at Waterloo Playing Fields, Overtown Road from 11.45am to 12.45pm.

The parade will then start at 1.00pm on the A71 Overtown Road and move along the A721, Wishaw Road, Stewarton Street, Main Street, Belhaven Road, Marshall Street, Alexander Street and Station Road.

All roads along the route will be closed while the parade passes through, managed by Police Scotland and North Lanarkshire Council.

It is anticipated the parade will take around two/two hours 30 minutes and the same time to pass any given point on the route. Therefore, residents and businesses are advised that access from junctions and driveways on to the route will not be possible for that time.

Road closures

The A71 (from its junction with A73 to the junction with A721), Alexander Street (from the junction with Heathery Roundabout to Dundyvan Street) and Station Road will be closed from approximately 9:30am for drop-off and coach parking.

The parade route, including all junctions, will be fully closed in both directions:

  • A71 Overtown Road, Waterloo from junction with A721, Wishaw Road to junction with Woodhall Road, Newmains.
  • A721 Wishaw Road, Waterloo from junction with A71, Overtown Road to A721 Stewarton Street, Wishaw
  • A721 Stewarton Street, Wishaw over its entire length.
  • A721 Main Street, Wishaw from A721, Stewarton Street to junction with Dryburgh Road.
  • A721 Main Street, Wishaw north westbound from junction with Dryburgh Road to A721, Glasgow Road
  • Belhaven Road, Wishaw from junction with A721 Main Street/Glasgow Road to junction with Marshall Street
  • Marshall Street, Wishaw over its entire length
  • Alexander Street, Wishaw from junction with the A721 (Heathery Roundabout) to junction with Dundyvan Street.
  • Dundyvan Street, Wishaw from junction with Alexander Street to junction with Station Road.
  • Station Road, Wishaw over its entire length.

It is anticipated that the A721 from Waterloo to Wishaw Cross and junctions will be fully closed from around 12:45pm with the remainder of the route, from Wishaw Cross to Station Road, being closed around 20-30mins later.

It is expected the parade will be complete and participants left the area by 3:30pm.

Given the extent of the closures and restrictions, there will be no signed diversion routes other than for the A71, Overtown Road.

Information notices will be placed along the parade route and on approaches two weeks before the event, with electronic signs being installed a week before.

Waiting and Loading Restrictions

There will be no waiting and no loading at any time from 00:01am to 5:00pm at:

  • A71 Overtown Road, Waterloo from junction with Bartonhall Road north eastwards for a distance of 200m on the southeast side of the road.
  • Marshall Street, Wishaw from a point 75m or thereby southwest of junction with Belhaven Road to junction with Alexander Street on both sides of the road
  • Station Road, Wishaw from junction with B7032 Caledonian Road north westwards for a distance of 140m on the northeast side of the road.
  • Station Road, Wishaw from a point 90m or thereby southeast of junction with Dundyvan Street, south eastwards for a distance of 42m or thereby on the northeast side of the road.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times during the closure.

Vehicle access will be permitted by Police Scotland, where possible.

Bus parking

It is expected that up to 90 buses will bring participants to the event.

Buses will travel to Waterloo Playing Fields via the A71 from Newmains or the A73 Main Street, turning past Cooper Bros. Garage on the A71.

After dropping off participants on Overtown Road, buses will travel via Wishaw Road, Stewarton Street, Main Street and Glasgow Road on to Belhaven Road, to park from Marshall Street to Beltane Park and Alexander Street.

When the parade is finished, buses will leave via Netherton Street and Caldedonian Road.

These roads will be very busy throughout the day and, as a result, there will be lengthy delays. Drivers are advised to allow significant additional time for journeys in this area and consider alternative routes during the time the parade is taking place.
