Active literacy pack stage 2/3 cost - £165
This pack is aimed at teachers of Primary 2 and/or 3. It is intended to support their understanding of the Active Literacy approach and provides teachers with clear methodologies and strategies for learning and teaching.
There are four manuals
Principles into practice overview
This manual provides a rationale and overview of the Stage 2 and 3 Active Literacy programme. It provides links to Curriculum for Excellence.
Teaching phonics and spelling stage 2/3
This manual provides advice for teachers and a suggested programme for the teaching of phonics for Stage 2 pupils. The Stage 3 Phonics programme is outlined but most resources are included in the supplementary manual.
Pupil self-assessment and record sheets are provided for both Stage 2 and 3.
This pack also contains the outline teaching programme for spelling for both Stage 2 and Stage 3.
Teaching phonics stage 3
This manual provides the teaching programme for Stage 3 Phonics with additional resources. There is guidance on how to carry out the interactive phonics programme.
Teaching reading linked to talking, listening and writing stage 2 and 3
This manual provides guidance on how to improve comprehension and word attack strategies. There are instructions on how to carry out guided reading lessons.
Case studies are included about reading strategies for non-fiction as well as some advice on using the traditional tales. It is suggested that teachers also use our DVD of Traditional Tales with this manual. An interactive CD Rom is also available to support this manual.
Teaching writing linked to talking, listening and reading
This manual provides strategies for teachers to implement the teaching of writing. This manual builds on the work from Stage 1 and ensures depth and progression. It provides advice and guidance on how to:
- use the outdoor environment
- provide opportunities for daily writing
- write across the curriculum
- use and develop a storyline
