Imprisonment can often be traumatic for families, through the process of arrest, trial, imprisonment and release.

Adults and children within affected families can be negatively affected such areas as by risks to housing, financial pressures, the emotional impact of loss and stigma and victimisation by neighbours and the community.

Families Outside are a national organisation that provide support to families of people through a Support and Information Helpline, as well as one-to-one support.
