Resilience Development Unit

The council is a category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act.

This means that it has a duty to work with other Category 1 responders such as Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service and NHS Lanarkshire before during and after any emergency situation. Contingency plans are prepared and tested so that all agencies can work together effectively should an emergency arise to minimise the impact and effect a speedy recovery.

The Resilience Development Unit (RDU) is a single point of contact between the council and emergency services/other agencies. Officers are available 24/7 to respond to alerts of emergency situations or requests for assistance from other agencies, co-ordinating the response of the appropriate council services. This includes arranging for a rest centre to be opened for people who have had to evacuate their homes, arranging emergency feeding or transport or liaising with Utility Companies in situations of water or power shortage.
