Here’s a snapshot of local events happening during the festival.
NLC’s Got Skills!
Monday 16 June
Members of the ESOL Learner Forum will host 'NLC's got Skills!' a skills sharing event on Monday 16th June. Skills workshops will be provided by ESOL learners and will include origami, sweet making, zumba and language exchange.
There will also be an opportunity to relax, chat and enjoy some refreshments between workshops. The event aims to showcase the creativity of our learners while bringing everyone together to learn some new skills, have fun and get to know each other better.

Wednesday 18 June
New Scots celebrating milestones
This special event, hosted by our Resettlement team, celebrates the successes and life experiences of New Scots from various resettled communities. The evening will feature:
- Stories of personal milestones shared by New Scots
- Cultural performances including music and dance
- Traditional attire encouraged
- Community engagement opportunities
This is a joyful and inclusive celebration of resilience, identity, and belonging.
Taste of Home: a community food celebration
Forgewood Community Centre, Motherwell
Saturday 14 June, 12pm–4pm
Enjoy a feast of global flavours prepared by local refugee and migrant communities. Music, dance, and family-friendly activities included!
CLD local chat cafes
As part of ongoing learning and integration participants will celebrate Refugee week as part of their weekly sessions. The chat cafes are open to everyone in the local communities and are designed for learners to practice spoken English, build relationships, promote health and wellbeing, and reduce isolation.
