28 health check indicators

Updates

This page is being updated. Links relating to health indicators will be added soon.

Progress in delivering The Plan for North Lanarkshire is informed by ongoing analysis of the area profile through 28 Health Check Indicators.

These provide a comprehensive picture of how the area is performing, highlighting where action is needed and helping to shape priorities for delivery through the Programme of Work.

Developed alongside The Plan for North Lanarkshire, these measures:

  • Focus on long-term outcomes - measuring the overall position of North Lanarkshire and supporting sustained progress towards The Plan for North Lanarkshire’s long-term ambitions.
  • Support consistent tracking - ensuring a stable approach to measuring, reviewing, and reporting progress over time.
  • Provide a high-level impact view - assessing the collective impact of council and partner activity across the economy, people, and communities.
  • Recognise complexity and time lag - acknowledging that outcomes take time and can be shaped by a wide range of influences beyond direct control.
  • Take a place-based, outcomes focused view - assessing the overall state of North Lanarkshire but recognising that changes in outcomes are shaped by wider social and economic conditions and environmental factors largely beyond local control.
  • Use objective data - drawing on independently produced, nationally published statistics to ensure consistency, reliability, and transparency.
  • Enable benchmarking - allowing comparison with similar local authorities and the national average.

Annual assessment

The 28 Health Check Indicators are used on an ongoing basis to monitor progress, inform decisions, and support delivery with the data being updated when national results become available.

An annual assessment is carried out and the information in this respect can be found in the links below.  This shows how work across four areas - economy, education, health, and social - is helping to improve North Lanarkshire for the benefit of the people who live here.  This assessment highlights where progress is being made and where further improvement is needed.

  • Economy
  • Education
  • Health
  • Social
