Local Transport Strategy

North Lanarkshire’s transport network is essential to connecting communities, supporting economic growth, and facilitating everyday travel. However, shifting travel behaviours, environmental challenges, and evolving local priorities mean the area now requires a new Local Transport Strategy (LTS). 

The new LTS will ensure that the transport system reflects the current needs of people who live, work and spend time in North Lanarkshire, while preparing for the challenges and opportunities ahead. The LTS has been shaped by Transport Scotland’s latest guidance and informed by the Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG), as well as the results of the robust engagement and consultation that was undertaken on it and the supporting documents.

The new LTS and supporting documents have been drafted and will shortly be presented to our Environment and Climate Change Committee for consideration. The documents, as well as the Case for Change (including results of the first round of engagement and consultation) and report on the second consultation that was undertaken between December 2025 and February 2026, can be accessed below:
