Local Transport Strategy

The current Local Transport Strategy (LTS) for North Lanarkshire was published in 2010 and therefore doesn't fully align with current national policies and strategies that have since been published.

On this basis, there is a need for a new LTS which offers an opportunity to better align and maximise opportunity. This will provide a new 10-year LTS to replace the existing 2010 version.

The LTS will outline the future direction for our approach to the development and upkeep of the transport infrastructure within the local authority area. Furthermore, the LTS shall also outline how we will meet requirements to deliver the national and regional obligations and provide a delivery plan for meeting local challenges and objectives.

What has been done so far?

Thanks to your valuable input during the initial consultation (November  2024 to February 2025), combined with data analysis and policy reviews, we’ve identified key transport challenges, opportunities, and solutions. This has led to the creation of a draft LTS with proposed actions to guide our transport future.

What is happening right now?

The second round of consultation is now live, running from 15 December 2025 to 8 February 2026. We are seeking feedback on the draft document and supporting documents, in particular the actions proposed within the strategy.

Find out more and access the survey.

What’s happening next?

The information collected through this survey will be used to inform potential updates to the draft LTS and its supporting documents, which will then be considered for adoption by the council.
